Mackay Sugar – Horn Guide Replacement Project

The horn guide project involved the replacement of wheels and mounts on a total of 565 x 6t sugar cane bins.

Work Methodology – To complete the wheel changeout, the sugar bins were rolled 90 degrees with hot works then undertaken to remove the redundant wheel assemblies & mounts before reinstating new mounts and wheels along with new compression rubbers & fixtures.

The job faced a number of challenges with the client accelerating the works to double to original production rates, in addition to variation works associated with chassis defects which required an increased inspection regime to identify and rectify crack repairs where compensation plates had to be installed.

With key hazards risk assessed, and effective controls implemented, the workshop team worked extremely hard striving to push out 12 wagons per day in a safe, timely and controlled work environment.

Congratulations to the workshop team. This contract was delivered safely on time and on budget.
